Locksmith "Lock-Myths"

Since our inception in 2013, our quest has been to provide fast and convenient rekey services for homes and businesses in Southwest Missouri.

During this journey, we have encountered a few locksmith “lock-myths” with our customers.  Here are three:

1.  I need to buy all new locks to sync to one key.

Not necessarily.  We recently rekeyed a house with 11 different locks that utilized 7 different keys!  Synchronizing them all to 1 key was possible without purchasing any hardware!  This process we have coined a “sanity rekey.”

To be fair, not all locks are universally compatible to sync like this.  In those cases, we streamline to two keys.  Sometimes, however, the convenience one key is a deal breaker.  In that case if you have 5 locks of one type and 1 lock of a different type, we suggest just replacing the 1 lock to synchronize.

2. If I rekey, I’ll lose my door’s nostalgic look.

Au contraire.  There are a variety of options for updating an antique door to a modern keyway (like Kwikset or Schlage) without marring its dignity.

Sometimes it’s as easy as changing out the cylinder (the keyhole area of the lock) or adding an oil-rubbed bronze deadbolt that matches the handle.  This way your vintage formal entrance can be on the same key as an updated back or side door.

In fact, we've updated the keyholes in many beautiful homes in Rountree and Phelps Grove Park areas.  We’d love to help you with yours!

3. Hiring a Locksmith is Expensive

This is a deceptive myth that keeps a lot of folks from rekeying their new home or business from the start.  Lurking inside this myth is a potential (and probably costly) lockout at a very inconvenient (and costly) time.

Security aside, rekeying right after closing gives all your locks and oil change, syncs them to one key, and takes all the mystery and guesswork out of your entry doors.

When you don’t rekey after closing, you’re left to discover the mysteries of your locks the hard way- like when the garage opener fails!

A proactive rekey on closing day is always less expensive than an emergency lockout (compounded with a garage door repair) at an inconvenient time!

Do you have a concern that might be a “lock-myth”?  There’s one way to find out.

Give us a call at 417-689-7034.  We’d love to dispel your “lock-myth” and  offer an easy solution for the locks and keys of your home or business.
